Affiliate marketing is a very basic thing if you try to think about it. If you try to see it in the real world, it is like you are just looking for people who might be interested on something and referring them to a company that sells that something. Simple, right?

Sadly, the whole idea of having a successful affiliate campaign is far from easy. Because it is a sequence of people talking to people, every part must work properly in order to get a sale. This also applies to online affiliate programs. Unless all parts of the program work in unison with the other, you may get very disappointing results.

Sometimes the problem is on the merchants themselves. Don’t get me wrong, their products are great but sometimes that is not really enough.

So here are some tips to help merchants convert traffic they get from their affiliates.

#1: Stop leaks

Make sure that the landing page as to where the lead will arrive in will not have any “other routes” to which they can exit. These routes include advertising links, links to other affiliates and links to varying stores.

#2: Give creativity a chance

Give your affiliates a chance to be a bit more creative in promoting your product. Always make sure your data feed is updated and well-categorized. Offer video creative if possible.

#3: Dedicated landing pages

When you have promos or campaign-specific traffic, make sure they land on dedicated landing pages and not just on your website.

#4: Learn from the competition

Spying on your competition is always a healthy thing to do. Take a look at what they are doing and if it works, find a way to emulate it. That is the simplest way to stay at par with your competition.

#5: Use promos and coupons

Everybody loves a freebie. It may not be as grand as the others but a little freebie (even a free shipping coupon) can spell the difference between a sale and a failed conversion.

#6: Share Ideas

Provide your affiliates with your marketing calendar. This way they can pattern their campaigns with your future marketing ideas. Remember that you may not be the only one they work with.

#7: Equip your affiliates

Make sure that your affiliates have all the information they will ever need in making sure you get conversions. You can provide them a list of your best sellers or maybe some information regarding the demographics. This will help them provide you quality leads which are much easier to convert.

#8: Motivate

Always make your affiliates feel that you are a team working together. I am not just saying that you have to constantly tell them “keep going, champ!” but there are other ways to motivate your affiliates. It may start with keeping an open channel of communication with them.
